1: Getting better at getting better is what RiseWithDrew is all about.
Monday through Thursday, we explore ideas from authors, thought leaders, and exemplary organizations. On Friday, I share something about myself or what we are working on at PCI.
This month, I’ve shared my proven annual goal-setting process to put forward ten goals for the year and then achieve those goals.
Today, to create some accountability, I will share how I did with my ten 2023 goals.
For the past five years, I have selected ten annual goals. Which I call “The Ten.”
2: In 2023, six of my goals were personal goals. Four were professional.
Overall, I achieved or made progress on nine of the ten.
Of my four professional goals, I achieved three of four:
(1) Meet with 15 leaders in university fundraising.
(2) Create a sales strategy for university development offices.
(3) Launch a “Fundraising Leaders with Drew” podcast (first episodes dropping in January!).
The goal I did not achieve was creating a new “Insights” business within our fundraising division. That will move to 2024.
3: On the personal side, I achieved or made progress on all six goals I set:
(4) Start a weekly Bible study.
(5) Be in bed 120 nights for a minimum of 7 hours 45 minutes.
(6) Create a monthly personal budget,
(7) Set aside time two days a week (my goal was three) to investigate things I’m curious about.
(8) Engage in two (my goal was three) longer (minimum 10-minute) conversations each week with our kids.
(9) Find a specific connection point, interest, or event for each of our six kids.
While there’s always more to do, overall I feel good about my progress this year. For me, it speaks to the power of setting goals and creating a consistent process to check in and plan the next steps.
On to 2024!
More next week!

Reflection: Did I set any annual goals for 2023? What is my plan to set annual goals for 2024?
Action: Take stock of how I did on my 2023 goals. Set aside time this week to set my annual goals for 2024.
What did you think of this post?
