1: Getting better at getting better is what RiseWithDrew is all about.

Monday through Thursday, we explore ideas from authors, thought leaders, and exemplary organizations. On Friday, I share something about myself or what we are working on at PCI.

Over the past two Fridays, Feb 3rd and Feb 10th, we created our “Life’s Board of Directors.”  We’ve been intentional about identifying those individuals who have influenced our lives.  Who believed in us.  Who supported us.  Without these individuals, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

2: The next step is to visualize each person.  Close our eyes for a moment and bring each person to mind.  One by one.  It’s best to take our time with this step.

Now, ask: “What was it about this person that made an impact in such a lasting and powerful way?”

Next to their name, write down a few words or phrases to describe what is (or was) special about our relationship with this person.

.Just a few words that describe how they impacted our life.  Something like, “was always there for me.”  Or: “never gave up on me.”

Once we’ve done that for each person, take a moment to read what we’ve written.  Reflect for a moment: Are there any themes or patterns?

3: The final step is to capture the essence of the words we’ve written.  We write one of two words that summarize why these people sit on our Life’s Board of Directors.

Next Friday, we’ll continue exploring the power of this exercise by reaching out and letting these people know that we appreciate the difference each has made in our lives.

More next week!

Reflection: What themes or patterns do we see in the words that describe the difference these people have made in our lives?  Are there any learnings or insights here?

Action: Journal about my experience with this exercise.
