Getting better at getting better is what RiseWithDrew is all about.

Monday through Thursday, we explore ideas from authors, thought leaders, and exemplary organizations.  On Friday, I share something about myself or what we are working on at PCI.

1: Question: What do we do when we achieve our long-term vision?

Answer: It’s time to create a new one.

For the past 20 years, our long-term vision at PCI has been to earn a spot on Fortune magazine’s Best Companies to Work For.

Vision accomplished!  Last summer, Fortune named PCI the #55th Best Medium Company to Work For in the United States.

2: As we start 2023, we are rolling out our new 10-Year Vision: To raise $1 Billion in contributions.

This new vision takes us in a new direction.  Our prior vision was focused internally on achieving our business strategy, which is to be a great place to work.

With our new vision, we are looking outwards.  Looking at how the work we do impacts our clients, which are universities and non-profit organizations.  Raising $1 Billion for our clients and partners says that our success is connected to their success.  We are successful as we help them to become successful.

3: Over the past five years, we have collected more than 1,700,000 stories from alumni and donors about how and why the institution they attended or care about has impacted their lives.  What is it about this organization that transformed who they are?  Why did they make their first gift?  Why do they continue giving?  Why do they continue to support the organization with their “time, talent, and treasure”?

Last year, we engaged a third party to research the impact telling a story has on alumni and donors.  The results were clear: Those who told their story were significantly more likely to support their institution than those who did not tell a story.

Current donors give more.

More non-donors become first-time donors.

Lapsed donors who tell a story are 6X more likely to renew their giving than those who didn’t tell a story.

At PCI, we are “on fire” about the power of storytelling to make a difference in the lives of alumni, donors, and the institutions they support.

So much so that we are dedicating ourselves to raising $1 Billion in contributions for our clients and partners.

That’s a big number.  That’s a big impact.  That’s our new vision.

More next week!

Reflection: What is the long-term vision of my organization?  Is it bold?  Meaningful?  Motivating?

Action: Discuss with a colleague or with my team.
