The late great David Foster Wallace shared a story of two young fish who were swimming along who happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way. The older fish nods at them and says, “Morning, boys. How’s the water?”
The two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over and says, “What the hell is water?”
Trust is like water. It’s everywhere around us, impacting our lives and our relationships in a million ways we are not aware of. It is the unseen, hidden quality that strengthens or ruins our most treasured personal and professional relationships. It dramatically impacts our career success.
We can think of trust as a “superpower.” When its there – it makes ALL things better. It creates hope and possibility…
And, when it’s gone, all that’s left is distrust and suspicion…
Reflection: Why does being trustworthy matter to us?
Action: What is one action we could take today to rise up to our best self versus how we are showing up right now?
